Q.1 Do I need to speak to my Health Fund?
A. Yes, you will need to check your cover with your Health Fund.

Q.2 Do I get any rebate from Medicare for my stay at The San Day Surgery Hornsby?
A. No, the account is only reclaimable from your Health Fund or Department of Veteran's Affairs (if applicable). However, you will receive accounts from your doctor/s and anaesthetists and these accounts can be claimed from Medicare

Q.3 How long will I be at The San Day Surgery Hornsby?
A. If you are having a general anaesthetic you will need to allow at least 3.5 - 4 hours for your surgery and at least 1.5 hours if you are having a local anaesthetic.

Q.4 Is it acceptable for me to travel home by taxi or public transport?
A. No, not unaccompanied, unless you are having a local anaesthetic.

Q.5 What if something goes wrong and I need to be transferred to another hospital?
A. We have transfer arrangements with Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District Hospital and Sydney Adventist Hospital.

Q.6 Can I stay at home on my own after surgery?
A. Following a General Anaesthetic or sedation, our policy, in line with the Medical Guidelines, is that patients remain in the care of a responsible adult for the first 24 hours following surgery.

Q.7 How will I know what special care is needed following my surgery?
A. Before discharge, the Registered Nurse caring for you will give you written and verbal instructions specific to your surgery. This will include contact phone numbers should you have any concerns.
