GOING HOME

Prior to Discharge

You will be given post-operative instructions by the recovery nurse. Please adhere to these instructions.

Discharge of Patients After General Anaesthetic

At the time of discharge from the San Day Surgery Hornsby you must be accompanied home by a responsible adult and continue to have an adult with you for the remainder of the day and overnight. You must travel from the San Day Surgery Hornsby in a private car or taxi, not on public transport. You must not drive yourself.

After the procedure, and for the next 24 hours, a small amount of anaesthetic may still be circulating in your body. This could make you feel drowsy. During this time you must not:
  • Drive a car
  • Sign important documents
  • Engage in sports, heavy work or lifting
  • Operate machinery including electrical equipment such as a stove
  • Drink alcohol
  • Be a primary child carer
